The Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) Design Engineer to join our growing engineering team. This role will be responsible for the design, development, and delivery of M&E systems associated with fuel storage solutions for backup power generators, including tank systems, fuel transfer, and associated control infrastructure.
You will play a key role in supporting projects from concept through to completion, ensuring designs are efficient, compliant, and aligned with client specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop M&E systems for fuel storage installations, including tanks, pipework, pumping systems, and control panels
- Produce detailed design drawings, schematics, and technical documentation
- Carry out calculations, system sizing, and equipment selection for fuel systems
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and suppliers to support project delivery
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and health & safety requirements (including fuel storage regulations)
- Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting
- Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives
Requirements
- Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline
- Proven experience in M&E design, ideally within fuel systems, oil & gas, or critical power infrastructure
- Strong understanding of pumps, fluid systems, electrical systems, and control systems
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks)
- Knowledge of relevant standards and regulations (e.g, BS, ATEX where applicable, or equivalent)
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
Desirable
- Experience with fuel storage systems for generators or datacentres
- Knowledge of PLCs, SCADA systems, or automation
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards accreditation
- Familiarity with sustainability and fuel efficiency considerations
