We are seeking an experienced Freelance Site Manager to oversee the delivery of heavy civils projects across a range of Canal & River Trust schemes. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and hands-on professional with a strong background in infrastructure, waterways, and complex civil engineering environments.
You will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
– Manage day-to-day site operations on heavy civils projects, including structures, earthworks, and water-related infrastructure– Oversee works on Canal & River Trust schemes, ensuring compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements– Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and site teams– Ensure all health, safety, and environmental standards are met and maintained– Conduct site inspections, risk assessments, and toolbox talks– Monitor progress against programme and report to senior management– Maintain accurate site records, including RAMS, permits, and site diaries– Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and local authorities
Requirements
– Proven experience as a Site Manager on heavy civils projects– Previous involvement in Canal & River Trust or similar waterways/infrastructure schemes is highly desirable– Strong understanding of civil engineering methods, particularly within water environments– SMSTS (essential)– CSCS (Black/Gold Card preferred)– First Aid at Work– Temporary Works Coordinator/Supervisor (Essential)– Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills…
