Bupa is seeking an exceptional Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to join the Executive Board at King Edward VII’s Hospital, one of the UK’s most prestigious independent hospitals.

This is a pivotal executive leadership role, providing professional accountabilities for all nursing and allied health practice across the hospital, and playing a central role in shaping the hospital’s strategic direction, quality agenda, and culture.

As Chief Nursing Officer, you will be a visible, values-led leader, championing clinical excellence, patient safety, and workforce engagement while ensuring the hospital continues to deliver outstanding care as activity and service demand increase.

Key responsibilities

As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will:

  • Provide executive leadership and professional accountability for nursing and allied health professionals across all clinical services
  • Act as the CQC Registered Manager for the hospital site, ensuring compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements
  • Lead and develop the nursing senior leadership team, including direct line management of senior nursing leaders and the governance function
  • Oversee clinical governance, risk management, patient safety, and quality improvement, working closely with the Medical Director and Head of Governance
  • Champion a just, inclusive and psychologically safe culture, where staff feel supported, valued, and empowered to raise concerns and drive improvement
  • Lead workforce planning and development, ensuring the hospital is well-positioned to scale safely and sustainably while reducing reliance on agency staffing
  • Act as executive lead for infection prevention and control, safeguarding, clinical education, and professional standards
  • Contribute to corporate strategy, advising the Executive Team on service development, workforce design, and patient experience
  • Build strong relationships with consultants, partners, and wider Bupa stakeholders to support service growth and clinical excellence

About you

You will be a credible, compassionate and confident executive leader, with a strong track record of leading nursing services at a senior level.

  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent) with evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Significant experience in senior nursing leadership at board or sub‑board level within an acute hospital setting
  • Proven experience of leading large-scale change, service transformation and cultural improvement
  • Strong understanding of clinical governance, patient safety, and regulatory frameworks
  • Ability to influence at executive level and provide clear, credible professional leadership
  • Experience within private healthcare sector
