Overview
Editor-in-Chief — DriveTribe
Location: Remote-first (UK) with frequent in-person editorial sessions (Somerset)
Reports to: Managing Director of DriveTribe
Salary: £60,000-70,000 (dependent on experience)
About DriveTribe
DriveTribe is an automotive entertainment brand built around great storytelling, passionate audiences, and personality-led video. Our ambition is simple: make the most distinctive car content on YouTube — content that enthusiasts love, audiences return to, and partners want to be part of.
We are now looking for an Editor-in-Chief to become the editorial brain of the channel.
The Role
This role owns the creative and editorial direction of DriveTribe video.
You will shape the tone, ideas, and storytelling across the channel — ensuring every video feels intentional, entertaining, and unmistakably DriveTribe.
You are not here to manage production logistics or make television. You are here to make brilliant stories for our YouTube channel.
You’ll work closely with our presenters (including Richard and Izzy Hammond), directors, editors, and production team to turn strong ideas into compelling stories that audiences actually watch.
What You’ll Do
Editorial Leadership
Define and protect the editorial voice and tonality of DriveTribe
Act as the final creative sense-check: is this good enough to publish?
Ensure every video has a clear narrative arc and strong storytelling throughout
Creative Development
Generate original video ideas and repeatable formats
Develop treatments, video structures, scripts, and story outlines tailored to specific talent
Build concepts that play to Richard and Izzy’s strengths while evolving the channel
Identify gaps in the current talent mix and help introduce a new presenter to the channel
Shoot & Edit Direction
Brief directors before shoots so the right story beats are captured on the day
Work closely with editors to shape pacing, structure, and emotional payoff
Balance creative instinct with audience feedback and performance data
Audience & Platform Understanding
Work with YouTube analytics and audience behaviour in mind to refine formats and storytelling
Understand what has historically worked on DriveTribe — and evolve it rather than reinventing it
Stay deeply connected to platform trends without chasing gimmicks
Commercial Awareness
Develop content that works within social-first production budgets (not traditional TV budgets)
Understand how branded integrations and partnerships work editorially
Create ideas that naturally deliver value for sponsors while remaining authentic to the audience
What We’re Looking For
Essential
Leadership and team management experience, with the ability to mentor and guide a team of writers and editors
Strategic planning skills, including Content Strategy and Audience Development
Knowledge and passion for the automotive industry, with experience in Automotive Journalism being a significant advantage
Car obsessed — genuine automotive enthusiasm is non-negotiable
A passion for storytelling and audience retention
Exceptional creative writing skills (ideas, scripts, treatments, VO)
Proven ability to shape stories across development, shoot, and edit
Experience working within digital/social production environments
Strong understanding of YouTube analytics and audience feedback loops
Comfortable directing creative conversations with presenters and videographers
High energy, opinionated, collaborative, and ideas-driven
Nice to Have
Experience writing or developing content for an automotive YouTube channel
Experience launching or developing on-screen talent
Background in creator-led or personality-driven content
On-camera or presenting experience
How We Work
Our production office is currently situated in Somerset but we’re not restricting this role to a particular location. As such, this is a remote-first role.
The successful candidate will join frequent in-person editorial sessions for planning and creative alignment (frequency will depend on the candidate’s location). Day-to-day collaboration happens online across scripting, development, edits, and performance reviews.
We believe great editorial thinking doesn’t depend on location — it depends on taste, curiosity, and creative ambition.
Success in This Role Looks Like
A clearer, stronger DriveTribe identity
Videos that feel deliberate and are unmistakably DriveTribe
Repeatable formats audiences recognise and return for
Growth in audience engagement and watch time
Successful introduction of new presenting talent
If you’re someone who wakes up with video ideas, obsesses over storytelling structure, and loves cars as much as content — we want to hear from you.
Please apply with a covering letter, CV and any relevant examples of previous work via Linkedin.
Two-stage Interviews will take place over the next couple of months with successful candidates asked to prepare for a creative session with the DriveTribe team, including Richard Hammond.
