At Hall School Wimbledon, we are seeking to appoint an exceptional Head of Maths to lead one of the most important departments in our school. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, knowledgeable and inspiring teacher to shape the vision for Maths across the secondary phase and to make a significant contribution to pupils’ academic achievement, mathematical confidence and enthusiasm for the subject.
Maths sits at the heart of a successful education. We are looking for a leader with the expertise, energy and clarity to ensure that every pupil becomes a confident mathematician, capable of reasoning, problem-solving and applying their knowledge with precision. The successful candidate will combine a deep passion for their subject with a strong understanding of curriculum design, assessment, pedagogy and departmental leadership.
This role would suit an experienced middle leader or an outstanding teacher ready to step into leadership. The successful candidate will be committed to delivering excellent outcomes, developing a rich and ambitious Maths curriculum, and creating a culture in which pupils are empowered, informed and conscious of their own learning.
The Head of Maths will lead the strategic and day-to-day work of the department, including:
- driving excellence in teaching and learning across Maths
- promoting high standards of numeracy and mathematical thinking across the school
- fostering confidence, fluency and enjoyment in mathematical learning
- using assessment and data intelligently to track progress, identify gaps and secure strong outcomes
- supporting pupils to become reflective, resilient and independent learners
- line managing and developing members of the Maths team
- contributing to whole-school academic development and improvement

- has a genuine passion for Maths and for sharing that passion with young people
- is an excellent classroom practitioner with high expectations
- has the ability to lead, inspire and develop colleagues
- understands how to use data effectively without losing sight of the individual child
- can champion numeracy and mathematical thinking across a whole school community
- communicates clearly and builds strong relationships with pupils, families and colleagues
- is committed to inclusion, ambition and excellent outcomes for all pupils
