Overview
The Academy of Medical Sciences – an independent, expert voice of biomedical and health research in the UK – is looking for an experienced Events Manager to provide strategic oversight and practical support across its extensive, high-profile events programme.
Responsibilities
- Owning the annual plan for the events portfolio, ensuring it aligns to organisational priorities and delivers measurable value.
- Providing expert advice to teams and senior stakeholders on event objectives, formats, audiences and feasibility.
- Leading end-to-end delivery of complex, high-profile events (in person, hybrid and digital), setting the standard for quality and professionalism.
- Putting in place robust plans, suppliers, run of show and stakeholder coordination to deliver a smooth speaker and attendee experience.
- Setting and maintaining event standards, templates and guidance so teams can deliver consistently high-quality events.
- Coordinating event activity across the organisation to improve alignment, reduce duplication and strengthen forward planning.
- Owning and improving the event planning framework (standards, timelines, governance and tools) to enable proportionate, high-quality delivery.
- Designing evaluation approaches and using data and feedback to improve event quality, audience experience and strategic contribution over time.
- Developing a focused, mission-aligned commercial events offer that supports sustainability while protecting the Academy’s reputation and values.
- Identifying income opportunities through commissioned events, partnerships and venue hire, building strong external relationships to deliver them.
Skills and Experience
- Significant experience delivering complex, high-profile events across in-person, hybrid and digital formats.
- Strong planning and operational management, including supplier management and end-to-end delivery governance.
- Budget management and financial stewardship (forecasting, cost control and reporting).
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to advise and influence senior colleagues.
- Commitment to inclusive and accessible event design.
- Confident using digital tools (including AI-enabled tools) and data to improve planning and delivery.
- Experience shaping an organisation-wide events portfolio and advising on prioritisation and impact.
- Experience building or growing an income-generating events offer (for example, sponsorship, commissioned events, venue hire or partnerships) is desirable.
- Line-management experience and/or coaching colleagues to improve event practice.
