Global Consumer brand | B2C | Mobile-first | Scale-up journey

Title: Head of Software Engineering

Location: City of London, 2-3 days per week

Oliver Bernard are working with a high-growth, consumer-facing brand that reaches millions of users globally across mobile, web and physical experiences. They’re on an ambitious digital transformation journey and are looking for a Head of Software Engineering to help take their consumer platforms to the next level.

This is a senior, hands-on engineering leadership role where you’ll shape how world-class digital experiences are built, scaled and shipped with a huge focus on mobile products, consumer UX and platform reliability at scale. Note, the ‘hands-on’ element in this role is defined by still being willing and able to code, perform code reviews and act as a Principal Engineer until the team is in place.

The opportunity

  • Own and set the engineering strategy for a large-scale B2C digital ecosystem
  • Lead engineering across mobile apps, consumer platforms, APIs and integrations
  • Partner closely with Product and Design to deliver beautifully crafted, high-performing consumer experiences
  • Play a key role in a business that’s moving from scale-up mindset to global maturity
  • Build, grow and mentor an engineering leadership team in a fast-evolving environment

This is ideal for someone who enjoys building while scaling – not just keeping the lights on, but continuously improving speed, quality and reliability as the product and user base grow. xwzovoh

What they’re looking for

  • A senior engineering leader with strong B2C and consumer product experience
  • Deep exposure to mobile-first or mobile-heavy environments
  • Someone who’s been through a scale-up journey (or multiple) and understands the trade-offs that come with growth
  • Technically credible – comfortable shaping architecture, setting standards and diving in when needed
  • Experienced in modern cloud-native engineering, CI/CD, observability and platform reliability
  • Confident working in complex, multi-stakeholder environments with product, design and commercial leaders

Why this role stands out

  • A genuine opportunity to shape the future engineering culture and organisation
  • A business that values innovation, pace and pragmatism over process for process’ sake

If you’re a B2C engineering leader who thrives in scale-up environments and loves building consumer products that people actually use every day, this one’s well worth a conversation.
