Shape the supply chain behind some of the UK’s most critical rail projects.

We’re looking for a Buyer – Rail to play a key role in delivering best-in-class procurement across major rail projects. This is a fantastic opportunity to influence outcomes, lead complex sourcing activity and make a tangible difference across the supply chain.

What you’ll be doing

As a Buyer, you’ll sit at the heart of project delivery – working closely with Delivery Units, project teams and procurement colleagues to ensure the right suppliers, at the right price, at the right time.

  • Deliver project procurement schedules through well‑negotiated, value‑driven deals
  • Manage and influence annual spend of up to £20m, including high‑risk and complex contracts
  • Lead multi‑disciplinary sourcing teams through end‑to‑end ITT and tender processes
  • Negotiate supplier agreements that support on‑time delivery, safety and sustainability commitments
  • Drive savings, report commercial benefits and continuously improve supply chain performance
  • Manage supplier performance using BRAVO, addressing issues proactively and professionally
  • Apply and manage legal terms and conditions, working closely with Legal and Project Partners
  • Champion behavioural safety and sustainability initiatives across your projects
  • Coach and support others, embedding strong procurement standards and Balfour Beatty values

Who we’re looking for

You will be a confident negotiator with the credibility to lead complex discussions and the commercial insight to deliver real value.

Essential experience and skills

  • Advanced negotiation skills with a proven savings track record
  • Experience running high‑value, high‑risk tenders and ITT processes
  • Strong understanding of contract law and legal frameworks
  • Procurement experience within a large, complex organisation
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver results
  • Commercial awareness, strong organisation and excellent stakeholder management
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems such as Oracle R12, COINS or MCS

Desirable

  • MCIPS (or working towards)
  • Experience within rail, construction, manufacturing or industrial environments
