Job Description
The Senior Risk Manager – Risk Business Partner (Risk Strategy, Supervisory & Optimisation) plays a critical role in delivering Visa Europe’s 2030 Strategy by acting as a trusted second‑line risk advisor to key commercial and functional leaders. The role provides independent challenge, oversight, and strategic insight in line with the Three Lines of Defence model, ensuring risks are identified, managed, and escalated to support confident decision‑making and sustainable growth. Responsibilities include delivering high‑quality risk insights to senior governance forums, leading deep‑dive reviews into high‑impact and emerging risks, influencing SVPs and the VEL Executive Leadership Team through data‑driven analysis, and embedding strong risk ownership and culture across the business. The role collaborates closely with regional and global Risk teams, uses MI and metrics to track progress against desired outcomes, supports and develops colleagues, and contributes to building a best‑in‑class Risk function recognised as expert, commercially aware, proactive, solutions‑focused, and constructive in its challenge. This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager.
Responsibilities
- Deliver high‑quality risk insights to senior governance forums and lead deep‑dive reviews into high‑impact and emerging risks.
- Influence SVPs and the VEL Executive Leadership Team through data‑driven analysis and provide strategic risk guidance.
- Embed strong risk ownership and culture across the business; collaborate with regional and global Risk teams.
- Use management information (MI) and metrics to track progress against desired outcomes.
- Support and develop colleagues and contribute to building a best‑in‑class Risk function that is expert, commercially aware, proactive, solutions‑focused, and constructive in its challenge.
Qualifications
- Expert understanding and experience of risk management practices in financial services.
- Expert knowledge of the wider European payments and/or financial services industry and major trends affecting executive leaders (VP, SVPs), including regulatory, political and market environment, payment products and services, economic and competitive landscape, technology and data‑breach risks.
- Knowledge and experience of Visa Europe payment system, governance principles and Visa Europe’s compliance framework.
- Track record in synthesizing complex information to produce impactful management information and analysis to support informed executive decision making.
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant regulation; understanding of business strategy, clients and evolving requirements.
- Proven ability to build teams into cohesive, efficient, value‑adding entities and to build long‑term credible working relationships internally and externally.
- Experience in preparing, reviewing, and delivering executive level communications, both written and oral.
- Control/corporate functional experience (Finance, Risk & Regulatory, Legal, Compliance) and knowledge of law related to the payments environment; experience with law enforcement/judiciary and court proceedings is a plus.
