This is a Liverpool based role, helping to support and working within a small, dedicated collections team based in Liverpool, this role reports into the Credit Control Manager and will provide support to specific fee earning departments in the collection of aged debts. This role involves regular liaison with the Legal Services Team (Partners & Secretaries) and clients whilst always maintaining accurate records. The Credit Controller will also provide support to the London based Working Capital Manager and Revenue Controllers. This is a great opportunity to become a part of an established team that is striving to reduce the Firm’s lock up and reach its cash collection targets whilst improving processes and delivering innovative credit control solutions to the Firm and our clients.

Responsibilities

  • Actively manage debtor balances within specific groups, whilst keeping finance systems up to date at all times.
  • Chase client invoices via telephone and e‑mail.
  • Review the department credit control inbox daily, ensuring all queries are cleared.
  • Attend regular Teams meetings with London to monitor cash collected versus target.
  • Liaise with the Revenue Controllers to raise and resolve any credit control issues preventing settlement of debt.
  • Assist with the production of regular reports and monitoring daily cash collection targets.
  • Assist office cashiers with reconciling bill payments, ensuring remittance advices are provided at all times.
  • Update collections software daily, ensuring payment history contact data are up to date.
  • Provide general assistance to the Credit Control Supervisor, Manager and Revenue Controllers on ad‑hoc projects as required.

Requirements

  • Strong client service focus with excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to investigate and resolve issues.
  • Capacity to work under pressure, manage workload independently, and contribute proactively to team objectives.
  • Professional in approach, appearance, and conduct; motivated with a desire to learn and develop.
  • Anticipates client needs and seeks relevant information to complete tasks effectively.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel).

Experience and Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of experience handling high‑volume invoice chasing.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a legal or professional services environment.
  • Working knowledge of VAT.
  • Desirable: Understanding of Solicitors’ Accounting Rules.
  • Desirable: Experience using the Aderant Finance System.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of billing processes.
  • Desirable: Prior legal sector experience (preferred but not essential).
