Financial Controller | High-Growth Infrastructure / Energy Scale-Up | London (Onsite)
The Client
Harmonic is partnering with a high‑growth, venture‑backed infrastructure and energy scale‑up that has scaled from zero to a £60m+ valuation in under five years.
Backed by highly experienced founders and senior operators (including former investment banking and exited‑founder backgrounds), the business works with blue‑chip institutional and corporate clients, delivering large‑scale, tangible projects across the UK.
With a lean team of around 20 people and ambitious growth plans, the company is entering a critical phase focused on fundraising, scaling operations, and positioning for a future sale. Finance sits at the heart of that journey.
The Role
This is a hands‑on Financial Controller role, reporting directly into the Founder/CFO and CEO, working closely with an experienced Finance Director.
This hire is effectively stepping in as the FD’s right hand, taking ownership of core accounting, financial modelling, projections, reporting, and investor relations support. You will be deeply involved in fundraising discussions, board‑level analysis, and supporting strategic decision‑making across the business.
This is a role for someone who is extremely numerate, commercially sharp, and comfortable operating at pace, in a flat, high‑trust environment where everyone is hands‑on.
Key Responsibilities
- Production of accurate monthly management accounts, reporting packs and leading the month‑end close.
- Act as the Financial Director’s core support across all financial planning, analysis, and reporting.
- Build and maintain robust financial models and projections to support growth, financing, and strategic decisions.
- Prepare board‑level reporting and analysis, ensuring numbers are accurate, reconciled, and decision‑ready.
- Support fundraising activity, including preparation for investor meetings and financial materials.
- Work closely with the procurement and delivery teams, ensuring costs, commitments, and forecasts are fully aligned.
- Improve and streamline financial processes, controls, and reporting as complexity increases.
- Act as a trusted partner to senior leadership in a fast‑moving, founder‑led environment.
What We’re Looking For (Essential)
- ACA qualified, trained at a Top 10 accountancy firm.
- Strong numerical academic background (e.g. Physics, Maths, Engineering, Economics, Finance degree).
- 2–5 years’ post‑qualification experience in industry.
- Experience in a tangible, asset‑based environment (e.g. infrastructure, construction, energy, manufacturing, procurement‑led businesses).
- Extremely strong Excel skills.
- Comfortable operating in a lean team, with pace, ambiguity, and ownership.
- Confident engaging with founders, investors, and senior stakeholders.
Salary: Up to £100,000 + equity (everyone receives equity over time)
Location: London, 4–5 days per week in the office
Start Date: Up to 1 month notice.
