Job Description:

Senior Project Manager – BESS / Solar PV (UK) – Hybrid with sites across the region.

About the Company

Our client is a market-leading renewable energy developer and asset owner, recognised for delivering some of Europe’s most technically complex and commercially innovative energy projects. With a multi-gigawatt pipeline across Battery Energy Storage (BESS), Solar PV, and co-located hybrid assets, the company is shaping the UK’s transition to a net‑zero grid.

You’ll be joining an organisation known for engineering excellence, financial stability, and a culture built around innovation, safety, and sustainability. Their UK business is growing rapidly, and they are now seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead the execution of utility‑scale BESS and PV projects through development, construction, and commissioning.

Role Overview

As Senior Project Manager, you will oversee the full lifecycle delivery of large-scale BESS and Solar PV projects (typically 50–300MW). You will lead cross-functional teams, manage EPC and subcontractor activities, and act as the primary link between internal stakeholders, external partners, and senior leadership.

This role suits someone who thrives in a fast-growing environment, enjoys technical and contractual complexity, and has a proven track record of delivering grid-connected infrastructure projects safely, on time, and on budget.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of utility-scale BESS/PV projects from design freeze through to energisation and operational handover.
  • Manage all stages of project execution including scheduling, budgeting, procurement, risk management, construction oversight, and commissioning activities.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project execution plans (PEPs), Gantt charts, financial forecasts, and risk registers.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams (electrical, civil, grid, controls, HSE) to ensure design compliance and buildability.
  • Ensure full adherence to CDM regulations, quality standards, and HSE best practices across all project stages.

Stakeholder & Contractor Management

  • Act as the main point of contact for EPC contractors, OEM suppliers, DNO/TSO representatives, landowners, and local authorities.
  • Lead negotiation and contract administration for EPC, ICP, OEM supply, and enabling works packages.
  • Chair project review meetings, site progress meetings, and technical workshops with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Resolve project bottlenecks, technical issues, and commercial deviations proactively.

Grid & Technical Compliance

  • Oversee all grid-related deliverables including G99 compliance, protection schemes, energisation planning, and interface with the DNO/NGESO.
  • Ensure design packages meet UK network codes, relevant IEC/BS standards, and client technical specifications.
  • Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and commissioning procedures for inverters, batteries, HV equipment, and SCADA.

Financial & Risk Management

  • Own project budgets (typically £20–£100m+) and manage cost-to-complete forecasts.
  • Identify, quantify, and mitigate project risks through robust risk registers and mitigation strategies.
  • Lead variation management, change order processes, and contractual claims.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • 4+ years’ experience delivering large-scale renewable energy, grid infrastructure, or power engineering projects (ideally BESS/PV).
  • Strong understanding of HV/LV electrical systems, protection schemes, grid connections, and UK DNO/NGESO processes.
  • Demonstrated experience managing EPC contractors and complex multi-stakeholder engineering programs.
  • Proven ability to manage multimillion-pound budgets and deliver projects safely, on time, and to specification.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites.

Desirable

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Project Management, or related discipline.
  • APM, PMI, PRINCE2, or similar project management certification.
  • Experience delivering co-located or hybrid renewable projects (BESS + PV / Wind + BESS).
  • Knowledge of UK planning regulations, environmental permitting, and land agreements.

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary with annual performance bonus.
  • Car allowance and travel expenses.
  • Private health insurance and enhanced pension contributions.
  • 26–30 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Professional development funding (APM, HV training, etc.).
  • Flexible working arrangements (hybrid office/site/home).
  • Opportunity to shape groundbreaking renewable projects driving the UK’s net zero future.
  • Clear long-term career progression within a global, fast-growing organisation.
