Project Manager – Maritime & Marine Engineering

Office Attendance: Initially fully onsite (2/3 months); flexible thereafter depending on project workload

About the Role

I am seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of bespoke engineering projects in the maritime, marine, and offshore sectors. The role requires a strong engineering mindset combined with proven project management expertise. You will manage cutting-edge engineering projects from concept through to delivery, working closely with multi-disciplinary teams, technical leads, systems engineers, and specialists to ensure customers receive innovative, reliable, and high-quality solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery

  • Plan, resource, and execute bespoke engineering projects aligned with customer specifications and internal processes.
  • Deliver projects on time, within budget, and to specification.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams throughout the full project lifecycle.
  • Track progress, adapt plans, and ensure quality of all deliverables.
  • Assist with non-recurring engineering (NRE) cost estimations and monitor costs against project plans.

Project Planning & Documentation

  • Develop comprehensive project specifications, system designs, and functional test procedures.
  • Prepare and manage project documentation including manuals, manufacturing record books, interface specifications, handling and storage procedures, and test/inspection plans.

Risk & Governance

  • Identify, document, assess, and mitigate project risks, escalating significant risks to senior management.
  • Lead and participate in internal and external gateway reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with internal standards, customer requirements, and ISO9001.

Customer & Stakeholder Management

  • Manage customer engagement, including meetings and communications.
  • Provide clear, timely communication to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support installation and commissioning activities remotely where required.
  • Conduct project closeouts and capture lessons learned.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Proven project management experience in an engineering environment
  • Experience delivering projects involving cross-functional teams
  • Experience liaising with customers and stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong planning, scheduling, and organisational skills
  • Degree (BSc/BEng or equivalent) in Engineering or relevant industry experience

Desirable:

  • Experience delivering defence-sector or bespoke engineering solutions
  • Mechanical design, programme/project management experience
  • Experience managing multi-item system integration projects
  • Knowledge of good engineering practice and working with harsh or inaccessible environments

Qualifications

  • Degree (BSc/BEng or equivalent) in Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent industry experience
  • APM PMQ, PRINCE2, or equivalent project management certification desirable

Security Clearance

  • Ability to obtain UK security clearance is essential
