Head of Project Management – Bedford | £75,000 | Onsite
The best way to intro you to this is by stating this isn’t a polished environment. For the right person, that’s attractive.
You’ll be stepping into a technically respected engineering organisation where the project management function isn’t where it needs to be yet and they know it.
However, there’s real investment behind the business. A major transformation programme is underway. But the PM capability hasn’t kept pace.
They don’t need someone to maintain it. They need someone to build it properly.
You’ll take ownership of a team of delivery PMs and:
- Bring structure to how projects are run
- Introduce governance, reporting and control where it’s currently lacking
- Coach and develop a stretched, mixed-ability team
- Ensure projects are delivered with clear ownership of cost, risk and outcomes
This is a hands-on leadership role where your impact will be obvious.
You’ll be expected to make decisions – especially around risk, trade-offs and delivery under pressure – and stand behind them.
What makes this role different
- You’re not inheriting a finished function – you’re creating one
- Direct influence over a £10m+ transformation programme
- High visibility with senior leadership and external stakeholders
- Real accountability – what you put in place will shape the business
What they’re looking for
- Experience leading project management teams in complex environments
- Proven track record of building or improving PM capability
- Comfortable operating in ambiguous, low-structure environments
- Strong decision-making – particularly around risk and delivery
- Ability to influence stakeholders and challenge where needed
You don’t need a heavy defence background.
You do need resilience, ownership, and the drive to build something better than what’s there today.
This role won’t suit everyone, but for the right person this is perfect. It’s somewhere you will undeniably leave a legacy and look back with a huge achievements liost under your belt.
