Electronics Design Engineer – Power Electronics (HVDC) – Umbrella rate DOE

Location: Greenwich | Contract Duration: 12 months

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Electronics Design Engineer to join our team on a 12-month contract. You will be responsible for the design, development, validation, and documentation of high-voltage Power Transmission Equipment used to supply undersea communication cable systems. This role focuses on high-voltage DC-DC conversion, thermal/mechanical integration, and ensuring designs meet the highest reliability and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • End-to-end hardware design, from concept through to production release.
  • Design and development of DC-DC converters (50–400VDC → 3–5kV DC, up to 5kW) and high-voltage circuits.
  • Perform thermal management and mechanical integration for high-power electronics.
  • Conduct HV testing, insulation resistance, partial discharge validation, and ensure compliance with IEC 62368-1.
  • Define test plans, schematics, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Apply FMEA, risk analysis, EMC/EMI design, and reliability engineering practices.

Required Experience & Skills:

  • Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering with 8+ years relevant experience.
  • Proven experience designing and releasing high-power DC-DC converters and HV systems.
  • Expertise in SMPS design, closed-loop control, thermal/mechanical integration, and high-voltage design standards.
  • Hands-on experience with simulation tools (LTspice, PLECS) and PCB design tools (Altium).
  • Familiarity with ISO9001, TL9000, and regulated hardware development processes.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
