A leading scenic and production company delivering high-end events, exhibitions, and theatre installations across the UK. The company combines workshop fabrication, electrical expertise, and on-site installation to deliver large-scale, high-quality projects.

Role Summary

The Head of Electrics will lead the electrical department across multiple sites, managing a team of electricians and lighting/electrical designers. This hands-on leadership role oversees the design, preparation, and installation of lighting and electrical products, ensuring work meets British Standards and is delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high quality. While primarily workshop-based, the role will also support on-site installations as required.

Key Responsibilities

Hands-On

  • Prepare electrical distribution and terminate lighting products on decorations
  • Work on prototypes, product testing, and electrical refurbishments
  • Support on-site installations, takedowns, and callbacks
  • Provide practical electrical support across other departments

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, motivate, and mentor electricians and designers
  • Allocate tasks, oversee workflow, and ensure quality standards
  • Conduct appraisals, manage recruitment, HR admin, and training
  • Maintain workshop standards, tools, and materials

Design & Production Planning

  • Review and sign off electrical designs and drawings
  • Advise on stock levels and sourcing of consumables
  • Plan electrical work, coordinate capacity and deadlines, and update production schedules
  • Standardise processes to improve efficiency and decision-making

Organisation & Communication

  • Maintain tidy, organised workshop and inventory systems
  • Compile and allocate electrical products ahead of on-site works
  • Liaise with operations, PMs, and logistics teams to coordinate work packages
  • Communicate regularly with production staff, site electricians, and management teams

Health & Safety

  • Ensure all electrical work adheres to British Standards and H&S regulations
  • Oversee PAT testing of decorations, cables, and equipment
  • Assess team capabilities and deliver in-house and external training

Requirements

  • Proven experience in scenic construction, events, exhibition, or theatre electrical work
  • Leadership experience managing electricians and designers
  • Hands-on expertise in electrical and lighting preparation, installation, and testing
  • Ability to plan, prioritise, and manage multi-site projects
  • Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
