About the role

We are seeking an experienced Chartered Quantity Surveyor to provide comprehensive end-to-end cost management services across projects in Shetland.

The successful candidate will act as a key client advisor, delivering both pre and post-contract quantity surveying services, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, within budget, and to the highest professional standards.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Contract Services:

  • Preparation of feasibility estimates, cost plans, and benchmarking data
  • Development of procurement strategies and advice on appropriate contract selection
  • Preparation of tender documentation, including bills of quantities (NRM2 where applicable)
  • Managing the tender process, including analysis, evaluation, and reporting
  • Providing value engineering and cost advice to optimise project outcomes

Post-Contract Services:

  • Administration of construction contracts (e.g. SBC/JCT and NEC4)
  • Preparation and agreement of interim valuations and payment applications
  • Ongoing cost reporting, forecasting, and financial control
  • Management of variations, change control processes, and cost implications
  • Negotiation and agreement of final accounts

General Duties:

  • Acting as a key point of contact for clients, providing clear and professional commercial advice
  • Identifying, assessing, and managing commercial risks and opportunities
  • Attending project meetings with clients and stakeholders
  • Collaborating with design teams, contractors, and other consultants
  • Ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practice

Requirements

  • Chartered status (MRICS/FRICS)
  • Proven experience delivering pre and post-contract services within a consultancy environment
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts (SBC/JCT and NEC4)
  • Excellent commercial awareness and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and client-facing abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently
  • Proficiency in cost management/estimating software (CostX and/or Kreo) and advanced Excel skills
