We are looking a banking lawyer, ideally with payments, custody, client assets and digital assets experience, but also anyone who would be interested in upskilling into this area.
The incoming consultant will be exposed to a wide range of legal work across the full spectrum of both Wealth Lending products including residential real estate, commercial real estate, aircraft finance, art advisory and subscription credit financing, as well as banking matters such as custody, payments, client assets and digital assets. The role will involve working directly with business teams globally as well as on a global basis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support Wealth Legal for Lending by overseeing lending transactions from inception to completion, addressing key legal issues, participating in the negotiation of core documentation and liaising with external counsel and lending advisers
- Provide legal support and advice for banking services, including payments, custody, client assets, digital assets, and other related services
- Provide ongoing support to both Lending and Banking on a variety of legal issues arising in connection with existing transactions and new regulations
- Review product programs, liaise with external counsel and compliance to revise on an on-going basis relevant documentation/templates, advise the business teams on day to day legal questions
- Provide UK regulatory advice on lending and banking products offered at Wealth (e.g., Consumer Credit Act, Regulated Mortgages, payment regulations, digital asset regulations), liaising closely with colleagues in Independent Compliance Risk Management (ICRM).
- Global co-ordination: The role requires regular interaction with global Wealth IF legal and banking legal colleagues (and external counsel as required) to ensure that global product launches and service offerings work from an local legal and regulatory perspective
Prior Experience ideally:
- A general grounding in financial services regulation and experience (either in private practice or in-house) with lending and banking services is required.
- Strong attention to detail: Ability to apply the care and exactness required in client disclosure documentation
- Some experience with applicable FCA (or equivalent) regulation would be beneficial.
- Ability to engage with a senior legal team and a multi-functional team on a partnership basis
- Able to meet the time demands of a profitable and market-driven business
- Conceptual thinking, creativity: Ability to view the larger picture of the product/service process and associated risks, and to advise senior management on appropriate structures
- Ability to assimilate complex issues and communicate concisely and clearly
- Able to keep on top of a rapidly evolving regulatory environment whilst assisting the business to develop innovative but appropriate products and structures
- Able to identify legal risk and to escalate issues on an appropriate basis
- Ability to work in a professional but demanding environment
The anticipated start date is May 2026.
The expected duration of the engagement is 12 months.
