Sir Robert McAlpine is proud to have been awarded aprestigious contract to deliver a cutting-edge gigafactory — atransformative project at the heart of the UK’s green industrialrevolution.
In its initial phase, the project involves the design andconstruction of a 15GWh lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility,complete with ancillary buildings and extensive site-wideinfrastructure works.
Once complete, this facility will rank among thelargest battery production sites in the UK, with the capacity tosupply half of the country’s projected automotive battery needs bythe early 2030s. We are expanding our commercial team and arelooking to appoint an experience Commercial Manager to workalongside our project controls team.

The Commercial Manager role – ProjectControls
Ideallyyou’ll;
- be a recognised CM with strongcommercial awareness with a focus on profit andcash
- have prior experience with CM or PM projects with NECexperience.
- have experience managing a range of commercial aspectsincluding procurement, tendering, contract administration,variations and management of subcontract works packages through tofinal account.
- Negotiation and agreement of compensation events with theclient, whilst retaining relationships isessential.
- Resolve issues in respect of payment and disallowedcosts.
- Deputise for the Project Commercial Director as and whenrequired.
- be keen to minimise risk, cost and maximise value by costchecking and analysis of labour, plant andmaterials.
- Broad construction industry experiences covering many andvarious sectors and markets in commercial positions with industrymain contracting organisation
Yourprofile
- Proven track record in commercialmanagement for major construction projects.
- Strong client-facing experience,with outstanding negotiation and communicationskills.
- Expert understanding of contract law, procurement, andfinancial management.
- Strategic thinker with the abilityto analyse complex financial data and provide commercialinsights.
- Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying, CommercialManagement, or a related field.
- Familiarity with NEC contracts andprior experience in CM or PM roles within the constructionindustry.
