Senior Engineer (Electrical, Control & Instrumentation)

Role Purpose The purpose of this role is to support the integrity and technical delivery of the organisation by acting as a central point for all Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) design activities and related information. The role involves collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering teams and responsibility for concept and detailed design of EC&I systems, along with oversight of external suppliers and contractors.

Key Objectives

  • Ensure consistent, high-quality engineering outputs for both clients and internal production teams.
  • Support the successful delivery of major projects within agreed timelines and budgets, escalating risks where necessary.
  • Contribute to departmental goals and broader organisational strategy.

Main Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage engineering resources to meet project requirements, providing regular updates to project leadership.
  • Develop both conceptual and detailed EC&I system designs across multiple projects.
  • Review and approve engineering deliverables in line with internal quality processes.
  • Ensure all technical documentation is complete, accurate, and properly recorded.
  • Monitor materials and components to support uninterrupted production workflows.
  • Provide regular progress updates to senior engineering leadership.
  • Supervise and support team members, including performance management and workload planning.
  • Assist in recruitment and onboarding of engineering staff and contractors.
  • Support the resolution of non-conformance issues and raise concerns where appropriate.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing or installation teams as required.
  • Deliver departmental objectives using available internal and external resources.
  • Track and improve team performance in terms of delivery, quality, and efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate records of project changes and associated impacts.
  • Attend internal and external meetings with stakeholders as required.
  • Identify and communicate project risks, delays, or cost overruns, along with mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct performance reviews and support ongoing development of team members.
  • Promote effective collaboration within the team and across departments.
  • Ensure alignment with organisational values and strategic direction.

Performance Standards

  • Maintain compliance with relevant electrical engineering standards and regulations.
  • Achieve high levels of on-time project delivery in line with business targets.
  • Support continuous improvement in quality performance and reduction of non-conformances.
  • Accurately capture and report project changes and associated engineering effort.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to manage budgets and schedules effectively.
  • Contribute to the successful achievement of departmental objectives.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience and Skills

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, with relevant industry experience.
  • Professional registration (or working towards it) with an appropriate engineering institution is desirable.
  • Eligibility to obtain security clearance may be advantageous depending on project requirements.
  • Experience managing engineering teams or external contractors on complex projects.
  • Proficiency in relevant engineering design software (e.g., CAD tools).
  • Ability to independently design compliant EC&I systems.
  • Experience producing technical drawings, reports, and specifications.
  • Competence in engineering calculations using both manual and software-based methods.
  • Familiarity with control systems or PLC programming is beneficial.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Flexible approach to work to meet project demands when required.
