Wood is recruiting for Senior Project Engineers to support the delivery of engineering capital projects based at our client site in Ware, England. This is a site-based role open for both permanent staff and contract (outside IR35) positions working at the client’s operating facility.
Responsibilities
Our Senior Project Engineers work closely with the client to deliver capital projects from concept through to completion. This role works closely with a multi‑disciplined engineering team consisting of both Wood and client engineers alongside external designers, equipment vendors, and skilled contractors.
The role requires flexible day‑to‑day activities.
The portfolio of projects includes infrastructure enhancements, replacements, building upgrades and new production lines within Respiratory and Oral Solid Drugs streams.

Required
- Degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Application of Wood and client health and safety standards within the working environment and design process.
- Ability to maintain safe working practices through all stages of a project with a focus on the assessment and mitigation of safety issues through design.
- Experience leading multi‑discipline teams and delivering work packages in accordance with quality and environmental management system standards qualified to ISO.
- Manage work scope and interfaces between all engineering disciplines to ensure successful delivery of assigned work packages.
- Review vendor documents and identify any problem areas.
- Evidence of experience managing change, including active management of plant changes in a controlled and safe way.
- Understanding of GxP and ALCOA concepts.
- Monitor and review engineering progress with Project Services and engineering disciplines.
- Act as a focal point for assigned projects, managing issues that require expediting or resolution.
- Organise, attend, and prepare reports.
Desirable
- Experience in engineering delivery design/operation of manufacturing equipment, chillers, HVAC, granulation, medical devices, packaging etc.
- Integrate design schedule to procurement and/or fabrication schedules.
- Prepare and check the scope of work specifications, project procedures and project reports.
- Take on tasks delegated by Project Manager or Engineering Manager.
- Produce detailed execution plans.
- Prepare project budgets, control costs during delivery and provide detailed forecasts for presentation to internal and external stakeholders.
- Forecast manning levels to support the contract portfolio.
- Prepare procurement strategies and maintain continual engagement with suppliers and sub‑contractors.
- Assist with responses to site queries from the business‑as‑usual team.
- Engage with multiple engineering disciplines.
- Demonstrable delivery experience through the full project and validation life cycle; URS, DQ, IQ, OQ, PQ and handover to production.
- Lead multi‑discipline teams.
