Data Program Lead/Head of Data (Contract)

  • Outside IR35
  • 6 months
  • £900-£1000 a day
  • Required to be on site 2/3 days a week in central London

We have a requirement for a Data Program Lead to partner with the this companies CIO in helping to reshape the way data is used and utilised in the company. This will be integral in winning over hearts and minds in the business in helping to change the long term strategy.

The role us suited a Senior Data Leader who will drive and impact change, it both a defensive and offensive focusing on data security, governance) and offensive (ROI, value creation), Technology and data as value driver, not cost centre, business-wide impact requiring senior stakeholder engagement and will be the foundation-setting to enable modern data principles

Its not linear in terms of background, you may have worked in roles with varying titles including Data Program Lead, Data Governance Lead, Data Architect, Program Lead, Head of Data or contract Head of Data (its open to discussion).

The current state & challenges:

  • Data maturity across the organisation is quite low with only basic data retention and protection measures in place
  • Current systems apply access rules and governance at very high levels (e.g., entire SharePoint folders) rather than granularly
  • Organisation treats all data within large buckets as equally secure, which limits information flow across the firm when it should be maximized
  • Using monolithic, old-school applications that haven’t required modern data thinking
  • No real granular understanding of who has access to what, who needs access to what, or how data flows through the organization
  • Technology team is energetic and wants to move quickly, which may create challenges for data governance work
  • Spectrum of views across organization from “data for everyone” to “lock it down, delete after an hour”
  • Historical skepticism due to initiatives that haven’t quite taken off in the past

Experience & Skills:

  • Background in data governance, management, and quality programs
  • Experience delivering large data programs
  • Ability to work with C-suite and senior leadership
  • Someone who would typically sit in a CIO’s office
