Job Description:

Product Development Electrical Engineer

Location: Bedford

We’re seeking an experienced Product Development Electrical Engineer to design and develop low-voltage electrical systems used within advanced technical and cooling applications.

This is a hands-on engineering role covering the full product lifecycle — from concept and detailed design through prototyping, testing, and release into serial production.

You’ll be working across 24 VDC, 48 VDC, and 240 VAC architectures, engineering power modules, distribution assemblies, and control circuits used within pumping and heat-exchange systems.

Key Responsibilities

Product Design & Development

  • Develop low-voltage electrical products from concept through to production release
  • Produce electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and detailed technical documentation
  • Engineer and specify power modules, power distribution assemblies, and control circuits
  • Design electrical architectures interfacing with pumps, heat exchangers, and cooling systems
  • Design and propose PCB / PCB-A solutions for power distribution and control functions
  • Integrate electrical systems into wider infrastructure or system-level solutions

Prototyping & Testing

  • Support prototype builds, verification and validation testing
  • Conduct electrical safety and functional performance testing
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across PCB-based and low-voltage power systems

Design for Manufacture

  • Work closely with mechanical, manufacturing, and industrialisation teams
  • Support DFMEA / PFMEA, design reviews, and value engineering
  • Collaborate with third-party manufacturers on prototype and serial production methods

Compliance & Documentation

  • Produce BOMs, PCB documentation packs, test reports, and engineering change documentation
  • Ensure compliance with IEC/EN standards, CE/UKCA marking, EMC, and LVD requirements
  • Apply appropriate design rules across DC power systems, AC mains, and mixed-voltage control architectures

What We’re Looking For

  • Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • Proven experience in electrical product development within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong knowledge of low-voltage AC/DC systems (24VDC, 48VDC, 240VAC)
  • Experience designing PCB and PCB/A assemblies (power-handling, analogue/digital control, PLC or microcontroller interfaces)
  • Solid understanding of EMC, grounding, surge protection, and electrical safety
  • Experience using tools such as EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, Altium, KiCad, or similar
  • Structured, analytical approach with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
