We are working with a leading global commodity trading firm seeking an Energy Trading Analyst to join their expanding trading team.

This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with up to 4 years of experience across middle distillates, light ends, or wet freight markets who are looking to develop their career within a high-performing, international trading environment.

Role Description

Working closely alongside experienced commodity traders the role will initially focus on building a deep understanding of market fundamentals through data-driven analysis, with a clear pathway into a junior trading position over time.

A core part of the role will involve analysing supply and demand balances, inventory movements, and trade flows across key products such as diesel/gasoil, jet fuel, gasoline, and naphtha. In particular, our client is seeking someone with the ability to interpret macroeconomic trends, refinery economics, and regulatory developments, and translate these into actionable insights on regional and global product flows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the traditional fuels markets, with a particular focus on middle distillates, light ends and wet freight
  • Monitor commodity trade flows and macro-economic events to support the commercial decision making of the trading teams and contribute to the development of trading strategies
  • Identify market pricing trends and monitor product forward curves, past and present
  • Perform research and market analysis to identify trade opportunities
  • Monitor and report developments in the energy markets, changes in regulation and government policies
  • Build and maintain analytical models and market dashboards
  • Compile daily P&L reports and execute risk management activities
  • Assist with deal execution and detailed record-keeping

Education and Experience

  • Graduate or professional with an excellent academic record, preferably in mathematics, economics, finance, engineering, sustainability, or similar disciplines
  • A minimum of 1 year’s work experience in energy/trading sector and specifically distillates is essential
  • Strong quantitative and analytical ability
  • High level of proficiency in Excel. xwzovoh Experience in Python and SQL preferred.
