JOB DETAILS JOB BAND: DCONTRACT TYPE: Attachment/Fixed Term contract until 11/05/2027/ Part-time ( 26.50 hrs per week )DEPARTMENT: BBC Nations, BBC Local / North West TonightLOCATION: Leeds (office based)PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: Upto £50,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. Flexible working will be part of the discussion at offer stage.PURPOSE OF THE ROLE The BBC Yorkshire weather team provides up to date and detailed forecasts and weather reporting for Yorkshire and other parts of England. Delivering live and pre-recorded content our weather presenters appear on-air several times a day, as well as on our social media and online channels reporting on big weather events. We are looking for someone to join the team 3 days per week – Please note this role will also require some weekend working on the BBC Weather Hub.
You must supply a maximum 5 min weather presenting showreel as part of your application.WHY JOIN THE TEAMThis role requires someone who is at home in front of a camera and microphone. You’d be joining a hard working team of meteorologists who are passionate about what they do. You’d be working in Leeds, with an experienced team of journalists serving audiences across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, telling the weather story whether that’s snow in the Dales, a drought in Driffield or flooding in Doncaster. You will also be required to broadcast regularly on North West Tonight at 1830. We are looking for someone who’s passionate about everything to do with the weather, not just the forecasting.YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:Preparing regular forecasts for multiple countiesRecording or presenting TV forecastsWorking with online and social media teams to drive digital content around weather eventsRecording radio weather forecasts for multiple radio stations
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCEESSENTIAL CRITERIA:Experience of weather forecastingA good understanding of the theory and science of weatherGood knowledge of broadcast and computer based technologyExperience of presenting for both TV and radio, on location and in the studioConfidence and experience in delivering engaging content for social media platformsAble to work to tight deadlines with minimum supervisionHave experience of working across multiple platforms (TV, radio and digital)A good understanding of climate change and the impacts for local audiencesA good understanding of the BBC Local audience and how to present the weather in an engaging and interesting way for the greatest impact
