You will work proactively with tenants to prevent rent arrears through early engagement, practical advice, and tailored payment arrangements that reflect individual circumstances. Where arrears do occur, you will manage cases effectively, taking appropriate recovery action in line with legislation, policies, and procedures, always balancing firm income recovery with a sensitive and supportive approach.
The role involves close collaboration with colleagues across Housing Services, Housing Benefits, and the Department for Work and Pensions, as well as external partners such as Citizens Advice, to ensure tenants receive the support they need. You will also represent the Council at County Court when required, preparing documentation, presenting cases, and working towards outcomes that are fair, lawful, and sustainable.
This is an opportunity to make a real difference by promoting financial inclusion, preventing homelessness where possible, and ensuring the Council’s income recovery services operate effectively and compassionately for the communities we serve.
