Senior Data Engineer required for a global organisation undergoing a high-impact data and AI transformation programme. As a Senior Data Engineer you will take a leading role in shaping and delivering a modern, cloud-native data platform within a GCP environment. This position sits at the heart of a greenfield transformation, where you will be responsible for driving the migration of legacy systems into a scalable medallion architecture, enabling more efficient and reliable data flows across the organisation.
Working within a lean and highly capable team, you will have significant influence over architectural decisions, tooling, and engineering standards. The role requires a hands-on approach, building and optimising robust data pipelines while also contributing strategically to how data and AI capabilities evolve across the business. There is a strong emphasis on embedding an AI-first mindset, leveraging modern technologies to enhance data processing, analytics, and decision-making.
You will collaborate closely with global engineering teams, including an established hub in Hong Kong, and partner directly with senior stakeholders such as the CTO to align technical delivery with broader business objectives. As the team grows, you will also play a key role in mentoring junior engineers and helping to scale best practices across the function. Technology Environment:
You will be working across a modern GCP data stack, including:
- Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- BigQuery
- Apache Airflow
- dbt (data build tool)
- Looker (including Looker Explores)
- Python & SQL
- Exposure to AI/ML frameworks and applications
- Experience with MCP (or similar AI deployment frameworks) is highly desirable
Experience Required
- Strong experience in modern data engineering at a senior or VP level
- Deep hands-on expertise within GCP data ecosystems
- Proven experience migrating legacy platforms to modern architectures (e.g. medallion/lakehouse)
- Strong Python and SQL skills
- Experience building scalable, production-grade data pipelines
- Hands-on experience with Airflow, dbt, and BigQuery
- Experience with Looker, particularly Looker Explores
- Strong understanding of data architecture, modelling, and governance
- Demonstrated interest or experience in applying AI within data engineering workflows
- Experience with MCP or similar AI integration frameworks is a plus
Working Environment
- London – Bond Street (5 days onsite, with flexibility – typically 4 days/week)
