Baker Charles are currently working with a well known high street brand in supporting the recruitment of a Senior Management Accountant.

The role will report into the Head of Finance and requires a strong management accountant to take ownership of the management accounting function.

The role will involve the following:

Key responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

Own the management accounting cycle

  • Plan, run, and continuously improve the month-end close (planning, execution, review, sign-off)
  • Deliver complete and accurate management accounts to agreed deadlines
  • Maintain consistent reporting definitions, mappings, and presentation across periods
  • Provide analysis and insight that supports leadership decision-making and group consolidation

Improve systems use and drive efficiency

  • Maximise effective use of finance systems and reporting tools to reduce manual processing and rework
  • Identify root causes of process inefficiencies and data quality issues, and implement corrective actions
  • Lead or support automation and standardisation initiatives that improve speed, accuracy, and scalability
  • Ensure system usage aligns with agreed process design and reporting standards
  • Lead and develop the team
  • Lead the management accounting team and set clear expectations for quality, ownership, and delivery
  • Coach and develop team members to strengthen technical capability and process discipline
  • Implement consistent review, feedback, and knowledge-sharing routines
  • Build resilience and capacity to support scale, volume, and increasing complexity

Key stakeholders

  • Finance leadership (standards, governance, escalation)
  • Commercial and operational leaders (performance drivers, inputs, actions)
  • Group finance (alignment to reporting requirements and quality expectations)
  • Finance systems / transformation stakeholders (tooling, automation, process design)

Requirements

The role requires someone who can demonstrate the following:

Essential

  • Qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent)
  • Strong management accounting experience with proven ownership of month-end close
  • High standards of financial control, reconciliation, and review
  • Strong systems and Excel capability, with experience improving reporting or finance processes
  • Proven ability to partner with non-finance stakeholders and translate numbers into clear actions

Process and improvement mindset

  • Demonstrated ability to shorten close cycles and improve data quality
  • Strong process orientation and attention to detail, with a focus on standardisation
  • Comfortable operating in high-volume, fast-paced environments

This is a hybrid role 3 days a week in the office and 2 days WFH.
