We are working in partnership with a well-established regional main contractor to recruit an experienced Design & Build professional to join their growing team.

Design Manager Role Description:

You will play a key role in delivering Design & Build projects from pre-construction through to handover, working closely with internal teams, consultants, and clients to ensure successful project outcomes.

This is a client-facing role, requiring strong technical understanding, coordination of design development, and effective programme delivery.

Typical Projects

The business delivers a diverse range of schemes, typically valued between £1m £15m+, including:

  • Education facilities (schools, colleges, technical institutes)
  • Healthcare & laboratory environments
  • Commercial & office developments
  • Industrial & manufacturing units
  • Retail & leisure schemes
  • Residential & mixed-use developments

Many projects are delivered via Design & Build, making this experience essential.

Design Manager Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing projects through full lifecycle (pre-construction to completion)
  • Coordinating and managing design teams and consultants
  • Overseeing programme, cost, and quality delivery
  • Ensuring compliance with H&S and contractual requirements
  • Acting as the key point of contact for clients and stakeholders
  • Driving a collaborative, solutions-focused project environment

Design Manager Candidate Requirements:

  • Proven experience working for a main contractor
  • Strong Design & Build project experience (essential)
  • Background delivering projects in sectors such as education, commercial, healthcare, or industrial
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management xwzovoh skills
  • Ability to manage multiple packages and design coordination
