5 x Band 6 Senior Mental Health Practitioner Roles across the Bradford and Craven District
As a Senior Mental Health Practitioner (SMHP) you will offer mental health and emotional wellbeing support within schools and colleges to children and young people through evidence-based interventions. The role of the MHST is that of a prevention/early help service for children and young people. As a service we work closely with colleagues across the CAMHS directorate to ensure children and young people are seen by the right service for their needs (considering the THRIVE model).
Key responsibilities:
- Act as an interface between staff working in all emotional mental health services, providing liaison, assessment, training and consultation regarding the emotional and psychological wellbeing of children and young people.
- Carry out assessments and provide brief interventions with individual clients as required.
- Support schools and educational facilities to identify emotional mental health issues and find appropriate support for both teaching staff and students.
- Support trainees and other members of the team through supervision and offering guidance. Practitioners will be expected to have completed additional supervision training or be willing to undertake a year-long training course.
- Work closely with educational staff to embed a whole school/college approach to mental health. Liaison and consultation are essential skills.
- Work within workload distribution established by agreement with the clinical lead.
Qualifications and skills:
- Experience in mental health or a related field.
- Supervisory and leadership skills desirable.
- Willingness to undertake additional supervision training if necessary.
- Strong liaison and consultation skills.
