Mechanical Engineering Internship

Company: EX Venture
Apply for the Mechanical Engineering Internship
Location: London
Job Description:

Location: Bali, Indonesia (On-site only)

Duration: 4-6 months

Compensation: Unpaid Internship (with potential for full-time transition)

Role Overview

Do you want hands-on exposure to design, manufacturing, and system optimization?

Are you ready to explore Bali and a new culture, while making an impact with a team pushing the edge of AI, sustainability, and innovation?

Join our MFC (Multi-Fuel Conversion) project and work directly on cutting-edge waste-to-energy systems. This role focuses on supporting the mechanical development, design, and manufacturing processes of our reactor and related systems. You will work closely with the project lead and engineering team to assist in designing, optimizing, and preparing systems for real-world deployment. This position is highly practical and suited for candidates who want direct exposure to industrial systems, manufacturing workflows, and applied engineering in the energy sector. This is an unpaid internship with the potential for a full-time role based on performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Lead Engineer in the development of the waste-to-energy system.
  • Assist in mechanical design and drafting using AutoCAD and E-Plan.
  • Prepare and update technical drawings, layouts, and detailed CAD maps of systems.
  • Translate concepts and engineering requirements into clear, structured technical drawings.
  • Support manufacturing preparation, including component specifications and documentation.
  • Work on system integration between mechanical, electrical, and process components.
  • Coordinate with engineering and operations teams for system improvements.

Role-relevant skills

  • You are currently pursuing, or have recently completed, your Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in mechanical engineering. You have a strong understanding of mechanical systems, components, and industrial processes.
  • You have a strong interest in mechanical engineering, sustainability, entrepreneurship, AI, and innovation.
  • AutoCAD: Very strong ability in technical drawing and map creation.
  • (Basic) Thermochemical Systems Understanding: Basic exposure to thermochemical reforming, catalytic processes, or gasification systems.
  • Chemical & Process Awareness: Understanding of chemical kinetics, reaction systems, or gas analysis methods (GC/FID/FTIR is a plus).
  • Manufacturing Awareness: Understanding of fabrication processes, materials, and production workflows.
  • Detail-Oriented: Ability to create precise, structured, and production-ready technical drawings.
  • Problem Solver: Capable of identifying design inefficiencies and proposing practical improvements.
  • Hands-on Mindset: Comfortable working on real systems, not just theoretical designs.
  • Python-based data analysis (a huge plus!): Experience with Python-based data analysis, including basic AI/ML regression methods, is a strong advantage.
  • E-Plan Knowledge (a huge plus!): Experience with E-Plan is a strong advantage.
  • Modeling & Simulation skills (a huge plus!): Familiarity with tools such as SolidWorks, COMSOL Multiphysics, or Aspen Plus.

What We Are Looking For

  • Can-do Attitude: You have a proactive mindset and an entrepreneurial spirit. You are self-driven and can thrive in fast-paced work environments.
  • Learning Agility: You are committed to continuous learning, adapting in dynamic environments, and tackling problems head-on. You can quickly adapt to complex systems and new technologies.
  • Ambitious: You are highly adaptive and curious, and motivated to learn new skills.
  • Team-oriented: You enjoy working in a team setting and are energized by interaction.
  • Independent working: You can effectively manage your own time, work, and motivation without external supervision.
  • International: You have a global mindset and can work in a diverse team.
  • English: You have professional working proficiency in English.
  • AI Tech-savvy (a huge plus!): You have prior experience in leveraging AI to accelerate workflows.

What We Offer

  • Entrepreneurial experience: Here, your input is valued, and your output is tangible. This internship also provides direct exposure to how companies scale operations.
  • Escape from the corporate routine: This is not a typical 9-to-5 corporate internship. It’s a fast-paced, team-oriented environment where you’ll work alongside an international team, participate in community activities, and build global networks.
  • 25-hour work week: Work hours are 11 AM to 5 PM, providing flexibility to balance professional development with life in Bali.
  • On-site housing: Housing options are available based on preference, from quiet, focused environments to collaborative co-living spaces.
  • International workplace: You will be part of an international community of entrepreneurs, building meaningful networks and relationships.
  • Networking: We actively support connections to opportunities that align with career goals.
  • Future Opportunities: Many of our interns go on to join EX Venture in part-time or full-time roles after the program. This internship could be the start of something much bigger.
  • Free lunch: We offer a healthy, nutritious lunch every workday at the office.

Important Note: This is an unpaid internship. We do not cover accommodation, visa, or flights. What we offer is the opportunity to build practical skills, free lunch, work on real business challenges, and gain experience in a high-growth environment.

Relocation: Mandatory relocation to Bali, Indonesia. No remote options available.

Start Date: ASAP

We encourage you to apply even if you do not meet all of the listed requirements. We value diverse experiences and are open to candidates who are eager to grow and contribute to our team.
