Civil Senior Design Engineer – Environment

The experience expected from applicants, as well as additional skills and qualifications needed for this job are listed below.Location: Solihull / Grangemouth (Scotland) / Nottingham (Annesley) / Warrington / Bristol / NormantonWhat you will be doing:As Senior Design Engineer you will be an important member of the Engineering Design Team and will be required to work with the Principal Engineer(s), Design Team, Design Manager(s) and Design Leads to deliver design to the highest quality to GT process and in compliance with the BMS and H&S Regulations. This is a technical role, engaged directly on projects, which requires competency in technical design delivery in the water and wastewater industry. The Senior Design Engineer can have line management responsibility for design engineers of the same discipline, plus non-discipline design engineers/others if required.As well as providing direction and assisting with innovations, you will be expected to contribute to the engineering governance of your discipline design activities, ensuring that design integrates with the other discipline design production activities, providing technical support to the supply chain procurement activities and supporting site activities as required. You will also be expected to support the Discipline Manager and Principal Engineer(s) for knowledge sharing and development of the discipline engineers, including mentoring and support of early careers.

About You:– Educated to Degree level in Engineering or other equivalent qualification.– Demonstrable experience of working within the Municipal Water and Wastewater industries, working with a variety of clients. e.g. Severn Trent, Scottish Water, Yorkshire Water, United Utilities, Thames Water, Southern Water– Preference for Chartered Member of a recognised professional Engineering body.– Competent in a contracting / consulting environment, with commercial awareness.– Knowledge in Civil design of non-infrastructure including but not limited to buried and above ground gravity and pressurised water and wastewater systems, design of inlet works, final effluents, primary, settlement tanks and other associated tanks, chambers within WTW and WWTW.– Knowledge of current H&S legislation and British Standards and experience in applying them across designs. xwzovoh – Experience of working in accordance with QA and H&S procedures.– Produce/ check calculations and reports to support those designs

Ideally you will have:– Understanding of hydraulics and experience in hydraulic calculations– Preferable knowledge in structural design of below and above ground water retaining structures and RC detailing but not essential– Experience of liaising with Client on technical matters to understand their needs and develop solutions to their problemsAttendance at design, progress and site meetings as requiredAwareness of NEC contractsCompetent with requirements of the companies Integrated Management System including Health & Safety, Environmental and all other appropriate regulations– Strong written and oral communication and organisational skills and to produce reports in clear concise EnglishProven ability to lead and work within a team environment with a dedicated approach to meet project deadlinesKeep up to date with industry best practice and where appropriate identify innovation/best practice for considerationCo-ordinate and liaise with suppliers, specialist sub-contractors, in-house functions and construction teamsUnderstanding in design activity schedules estimatesProficient in working with multi- disciplinary teamsSupervise and mentor less experienced or junior engineers
