Job Title: Team Manager Social Work – Kinship & Special Guardianship Team | Location: Exeter, UK | Salary: £40 per hour DoE | Duration: 3 months

We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and motivated Team Manager to lead our Kinship & Special Guardianship Order Support and Private Fostering team in Exeter for a period of 3 months. Earning a competitive rate of £40 per hour DoE, you will play a key role in ensuring high‑quality support for children in kinship care and fostering arrangements. What you will do:

  • Lead and manage the Special Guardianship Order Support team and the Private Fostering team, overseeing daily support and assessments.
  • Ensure the delivery of high‑quality support services for kinship carers, SGO families, and private fostering arrangements.
  • Manage a team of social workers and family practitioners, fostering development and teamwork.
  • Collaborate with social work teams, families, carers, and multi‑agency partners to ensure children’s needs are met and support services are accessible.
  • Oversee assessments of needs and create support plans for carers and families.
  • Manage resources and budgets to maximise service efficiency and impact.

About you:

Champion the welfare of children and young people in Devon, endorsing high standards of social work practice aligned with statutory obligations. You will champion restorative practices and promote a culture of reflection and learning. Deliver on‑job training, coaching, and mentoring for your team to create the best outcomes for children and families.

Your skills and experience should include:

  • A social work qualification and registration with Social Work England.
  • Extensive experience in children’s services, particularly in fostering, kinship care, or special guardianship.
  • Proven leadership and management experience within a local authority or related setting.
  • Strong knowledge of the legal framework surrounding kinship care, SGOs, and private fostering.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience in managing budgets and resources effectively.
  • A valid UK driving licence and access to a car.
