About the Lead Electrical Design Engineer Role
The Lead Electrical Design Engineer will guide electrical design teams delivering complex engineering solutions from initial concept through to handover. Projects involve high‑integrity machinery and process systems designed for regulated environments, covering full lifecycle design, integration, testing and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities of the Lead Electrical Design Engineer
Lead electrical design work packages to time, cost and quality targetsSupervise, review and verify design deliverables including schematics, GA drawings, cable schedules, FDS and software documentationProduce control panel designs including GAs, detailed drawings, wiring diagrams, interlocks, motor starters, drives, safety circuits, instrumentation and power distributionCoordinate with EC&I, mechanical and software engineering teamsLiaise with manufacturing, testing and commissioning functionsEnsure compliance with UK legislation, engineering standards and best practiceContribute to HAZOPs, design reviews and technical risk assessmentsManage design change control, variations and technical documentation
Security Requirements
This role involves access to sensitive engineering projects. Applicants must be eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC).
Candidate Profile
HNC, HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering (or similar discipline)Strong experience in electrical design engineeringProven background leading Electrical / EC&I engineers on project workProficient in AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical and MS OfficeKnowledge of British/European standards; IEC 61508 beneficialEligible for UK Security ClearanceCommitment to professional development (Chartership support available)
