Firmware Engineers – Ever Thought About Defence?
Are you a firmware engineer with around 2–3 years’ experience… or someone who spends their evenings building, coding or experimenting just because you love it with a lot of firmware knowledge?
You might not have considered a career in defence before. Most people haven’t.
But if you enjoy solving complex problems, working close to hardware, and seeing your work applied in real-world, high-impact systems this could be a really exciting next step.
The Opportunity
- Transition into the defence industry
- Work on cutting‑edge embedded and FPGA‑based systems
- Be supported through onboarding and development
- Gain security clearance (subject to eligibility)
What we’re looking for
We’re not looking for the “perfect CV”.
- Have ~2–3 years’ experience in firmware, embedded systems or FPGA
- Or have strong hands‑on experience through personal projects or hobbies
- Enjoy working close to hardware and solving real‑world engineering problems
- Are curious, motivated and keen to keep learning.
Experience could include
- VHDL / Verilog / FPGA development
- Embedded C / C++
- Microcontrollers, hardware interfaces, or digital design
- Personal builds, home labs, or side projects
Why this is different
A lot of engineers don’t realise that their skills are highly transferable into defence.
We’re here to bridge that gap.
At WithYouWithMe, we
- Support you through the transition into a new industry
- Help you navigate security clearance
- Provide a structured pathway into long‑term, meaningful work
Security Clearance
This role will require UK security clearance.
If you meet the eligibility criteria, we will support you through the process.
What happens next
- Go through our assessment and onboarding process
- Be supported through clearance
- Join a client team working on real‑world aerospace/defence systems
Final thought
You don’t need to have worked in defence before.
If you’ve got the foundations, the mindset, and the curiosity— we’ll help you take the next step.
