Senior Process Engineer

We are recruiting a Senior Process Engineer to deliver outline design and detailed specifications for water and wastewater schemes. This role is based in our Birmingham office and can be worked flexibly with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office.

At Sweco, we have 22,000 experts across Northern Europe, and we bring global know‑how to the UK water industry, including work on AMP7 Frameworks with 7 of the 12 UK water and sewerage companies.

What does the role involve?

  • Undertaking process design (calculations, mass balance, process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation drawings, sketches, reports, etc.) to achieve optimum solutions.
  • Providing day‑to‑day technical input as part of a team of Process Safety and Water/Wastewater Engineers.
  • Collaborating with colleagues from other disciplines to deliver project requirements and added value to the client.
  • Working with PMs to deliver on time, quality and cost targets.
  • Providing process safety expertise via DSEAR, COSHH and HAZOP assessments.
  • Facilitating HAZOP sessions.
  • Providing quality assurance for all client deliverables and supporting junior staff to improve their technical capabilities.

To be successful in this role you’ll possess:

  • A degree in a relevant Process Engineering subject (or equivalent) and working towards chartered status with a relevant professional institution.
  • Knowledge and experience of process design for the water industry.
  • A growth mindset focused on continual professional development.
  • Enjoyment of a variety of tasks and a healthy natural inquisition for knowledge.
  • The ability to work with engineers from all disciplines and other industry professionals to optimise and develop bespoke and innovative designs.
  • The ability to be flexible and pick up new skills across a portfolio of projects.
  • A healthy appreciation for supporting project management.
  • Experience delivering water and wastewater designs and specifications on projects for Water Companies, Contractors and industry.
  • An appreciation of environmental impacts and knowledge of sustainable solutions, water and wastewater processes and health and safety legislation.
  • A keen eye for detail and pride in the quality of work produced.
