Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Resident Lead Engineer to support a major automotive programme based in Crewe, UK.

As the primary on-site technical interface, the role involves structured coordination between development teams, suppliers, and stakeholders, ensuring operational continuity and alignment throughout the entire project lifecycle. The candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end management of infotainment component development across two vehicle programmes within a leading automotive group, with an on-site presence of approximately three days per week. A solid knowledge of Volkswagen Group processes, methodologies, and standards is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end development lifecycle of components (switches) across two vehicle programmes.
  • Act as the primary on-site technical representative, ensuring effective communication among all stakeholders.
  • Manage and review system requirements, component specifications, and product documentation.
  • Oversee the release process and ensure compliance with defined standards and project requirements.
  • Carry out validation activities on pre-series vehicles (PVS phase), including testing and final sign-off.
  • Coordinate bug tracking and resolution, ensuring timely, high-quality software releases.
  • Interface with third-party suppliers to ensure alignment on deliverables, timelines, and quality standards.
  • Support integration activities related to infotainment and connectivity systems.
  • Ensure proper communication and reporting between engineering teams and project stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronic Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related fields.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the automotive sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of Volkswagen Group processes and standards (mandatory).
  • Proven experience in HW/SW integration within automotive systems.
  • Strong understanding of E/E architectures and vehicle systems.
  • Proficiency in communication protocols such as CAN and LIN (Ethernet is a plus).
  • Experience working in advanced development phases (Pre-series / PVS).
  • Familiarity with VW-specific processes and standards (e.g. VFF, PVS).
  • Experience in bug tracking, validation, and vehicle testing activities.
  • Hands-on experience with Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence).
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in infotainment and connectivity system integration.
  • Previous experience in Resident Engineering roles or client-facing positions.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills in international environments.
