System Engineering Manager

We are supporting a large-scale refinery and petrochemical development involving significant upgrades and integration of new processing facilities. This is a complex, high-value project at pre-FEED stage, offering the opportunity to shape critical IT and digital systems strategy from the outset.

This is a contract role based in Reading, UK. You will act as the client-side technical authority for IT systems, working alongside EPC contractors and project stakeholders to ensure that all systems are:

• Secure and compliant
• Fully integrated across IT and operational environments
• Scalable and fit-for-purpose
• Aligned with project standards and long-term operational needs

This role is focused on technical leadership, assurance, and optimisation, rather than hands‑on delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide leadership across IT infrastructure, networks, and digital systems
• Oversee integration between IT and OT systems (control systems, industrial networks, data platforms)
• Review and challenge contractor designs across:
  • Cloud and on‑premise environments
  • Data management and system integration
• Ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards and data governance requirements
• Support development of engineering standards, specifications, and philosophies
• Contribute to FEED/EPC scope definition and vendor evaluations
• Identify opportunities for digital optimisation and new technologies

What We’re Looking For

• 15+ years’ experience in IT systems engineering within complex industrial environments
• Background in Oil & Gas, refining, petrochemical, or similar process industries
• Strong experience across:
  • OT / industrial systems integration
  • Cybersecurity and data architecture
• Experience supporting major capital projects (pre‑FEED / FEED / EPC)
• Background working in client‑side or EPC/EPCM environments
• Exposure to large Middle East projects is highly advantageous
