IT Systems Administrator

Company: Hypersonica
Apply for the IT Systems Administrator
Location: Greater London
Job Description:

Hypersonica builds hypersonic vehicles and we move at a pace most teams can’t sustain (we went from blank sheet design to Mach >6 test flight in nine months).

We’re now hiring our first IT Systems Administrator to own the UK IT stack end to end, this includes; identity, Windows endpoints, device provisioning, and the day to day reliability and security of our UK sites. You will have real authority to set the baseline (MFA, least privilege, patching, encryption), fix problems properly, and keep standards high. You’ll be working closely with our Germany team (Linux/containerised infrastructure) to keep access and security consistent across the company.

This isn’t a ticket queue job. It’s a high-trust operator role with clear outcomes: secure systems, fast support, no repeat incidents. If you can build IT foundations from the ground up for a rapidly moving defence company, we should talk.

What you’ll do

  • Own the Microsoft environment end to end: Entra ID, Windows endpoints, Intune/Autopilot (or GPO where needed), and core Microsoft server services.
  • Stand up and run IT for the UK workshop from zero: secure network access, device provisioning, endpoint compliance, and reliable day to day operations.
  • Build a hardened baseline for all laptops: MFA enforced, least privilege access, patching cadence, device encryption, and standard security policies.
  • Be the on site IT owner when something breaks: diagnose quickly, fix properly, document the outcome, and prevent repeat issues.
  • Partner with the Germany IT team (Linux/Kubernetes/open source) to keep identity, access, and security controls consistent across UK and DE.
  • Keep the system clean: documentation, asset tracking, simple workflows, and fast support with clear escalation when needed.

Who you are

  • Hands‑on IT systems administrator who has owned Microsoft environments in the real world (Entra ID, Windows endpoint management, Intune/GPO, and Microsoft server basics).
  • Security‑minded by default: you think in access control, hardening, audit‑ability, and always thinking what could go wrong.
  • High autonomy and good judgement. You can be the only person on‑site and still deliver reliable outcomes.
  • Practical operator, not a ticket‑closer. You care about root cause, prevention, and keeping standards high.
  • Comfortable in a fast moving hardware company where the priority is uptime, security, and speed, not perfect process.
  • Curious enough to work alongside a Linux/Kubernetes team.

What we offer

  • A mission driven environment with the opportunity to work on one of Europe’s most consequential defence challenges, with direct impact on sovereign capability and security.
  • Daily collaboration with top experts across engineering, operations, and defence, with real opportunity to learn from the best, contribute, and grow.
  • High ownership and autonomy; no time tracking, no micromanagement, just clear objectives and accountability for outcomes.
  • A fast paced environment where good ideas are implemented quickly, and feedback from test and flight drives real decisions.
  • A culture that values clarity, integrity, and excellence, and supports people who take initiative and push boundaries responsibly.
  • Competitive compensation and real share options aligned to responsibility and impact, not tenure or hierarchy.

At Hypersonica, every hire raises the bar. We are deliberately small, intensely capable, and deeply mission‑driven. If this role feels like a strong fit, or if you believe you bring something exceptional that goes beyond the description, we encourage you to apply.

Hypersonica is an equal‑opportunity employer and assesses candidates solely on merit, capability, and potential.

You can apply directly to this role or reach out to Nathan Sweeney, Head of Talent. We review every application and aim to respond to all candidates within two weeks, whether the answer is yes or no.
