Electronic Trading Support Engineer (AVP) – FX & Fixed Income | Global Investment Bank
A leading global investment bank is seeking an AVP-level Electronic Trading Support Engineer to join its core trading technology team, supporting high-performance FX and Fixed Income trading systems. This team sits at the heart of the bank’s electronic trading function, responsible for trade flow, market connectivity, and ultra‑low latency system performance. You’ll operate in a highly technical environment with direct exposure to trading infrastructure, network architecture, and front‑office stakeholders.
Role Overview
As an Electronic Trading Support Engineer, you’ll be responsible for the stability, performance, and continuous improvement of the bank’s electronic trading platforms. The role combines hands‑on production support with engineering‑led initiatives, offering strong exposure to both infrastructure and business logic.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting business‑critical electronic trading systems across FX and Fixed Income, ensuring high availability and performance.
- Operating within a Linux‑based environment, utilising shell scripting and system‑level troubleshooting.
- Managing and optimising trade flow and market connectivity within an ultra‑low latency architecture.
- Working closely with networking technologies, including multicast, TCP/IP, and colocation environments.
- Monitoring system and network performance using tools such as ITRS, Corvil, Splunk, and Grafana.
- Proactively identifying performance bottlenecks and implementing long‑term engineering solutions.
- Driving automation and toil reduction through scripting and process improvement initiatives.
- Supporting change and release processes, as well as contributing to broader project delivery.
- Playing a key role in critical initiatives, including new trading venue onboarding and market structure updates.
- Collaborating closely with quant teams, gaining exposure to pricing logic, execution strategies, and trading behaviour.
- Building knowledge across low‑level infrastructure, including datalinks, fibre connectivity, and multi‑asset trading systems.
- Work within a follow‑the‑sun model, removing the need for an on‑call rota while maintaining global system coverage.
Required Experience
- 4+ years’ experience supporting trading systems within a front‑office environment.
- Strong Linux systems knowledge, comfortable working at OS and shell level.
- Solid understanding of trade flow and electronic trading systems, ideally within FX or Fixed Income.
- Good understanding of networking fundamentals, including multicast, TCP/IP, and colocation environments.
- Experience with monitoring/observability tools such as ITRS, Splunk, Grafana, or Corvil.
- Scripting or programming experience (Python or Bash preferred).
- Engineering mindset, focused on automation, scalability, and long‑term fixes over short‑term solutions.
- Cloud exposure, ideally GCP.
Company Culture & Benefits
- High‑performing front‑office technology team experiencing significant investment and growth.
- Strong work‑life balance, including 2 days per week remote working and relaxed hours.
- Clear progression pathways and strong internal mobility.
