Media & Press Relations Manager (External Affairs / Communications)

Location: London, UK (Hybrid Working – 1–2 days onsite)

Overview

Our client, a leading professional membership organisation, is seeking a Media & Press Relations Manager to join its communications and external affairs function.

This is a high-impact role focused on shaping external reputation, leading media engagement, and delivering strategic communications campaigns. You will play a key role in positioning the organisation as a trusted voice within its sector, working closely with senior stakeholders and influencing public and industry discourse.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver strategic media and communications plans to enhance brand reputation
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, and key influencers
  • Manage press enquiries, ensuring timely, accurate, and consistent messaging
  • Lead crisis communications activity, including media monitoring and response strategies
  • Plan and execute integrated campaigns across traditional media, digital platforms, and social channels
  • Support engagement with political stakeholders and contribute to external affairs activity
  • Use insights and research to inform media strategy and communication priorities
  • Drive thought leadership initiatives and identify opportunities for spokesperson engagement
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure alignment of messaging and campaigns

Requirements

  • Proven experience in media relations, public relations, or external communications
  • Strong track record of delivering successful communications campaigns
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messaging
  • Experience managing media relations in high-pressure or reputationally sensitive environments
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Experience engaging with political stakeholders or public affairs is advantageous
  • Familiarity with media monitoring tools and social media platforms
  • Collaborative and proactive approach with strong stakeholder management skills
  • Hybrid working model (1–2 days per week in London office)
