Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation with offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow, is currently looking to recruit an ICT Website Developer (Umbraco) for a 2 month contract with potential to extend on a rate of £450/day (Outside IR35). This role will be largely homebased with the occasional travel for in person meetings likely to be held within the Central Belt of Scotland.
Responsibilities
– Conduct full quality assurance including regression testing of all components impacted by the upgrade or new features.
– Browser and device compatibility testing.
– Functionality testing of the search, forms and content rendering.
– Deploy all changes to a staging environment for User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
– Manage all migration to production in line with SFRS change control procedures.
– Work collaboratively with Digital and Technology Services (DaTS) team and support peer review of all development work.
– Provide updated technical documentation including a summary of changes introduced by the upgrade and new features. In addition, to providing supporting documentation, complete a handover of all work completed to the Digital and Technology Services (DaTS) team to aid future development.
– Highlight any known issues and recommendations for future improvements.
– Notify of any updated processes for content editors, systems developers and administrators.
– Record all future code changes and store them in the DevOps repository, ensuring technical documentation remains accurate and up to date.
Essential Skills:
– Strong experience working with Umbraco CMS, including completing upgrades across major versions and handling breaking changes.
– Practical experience using Azure DevOp, including managing code changes and deploying updates to staging and production environments.
– Strong knowledge of tools and techniques to build and maintain an Umbraco website including .NET Core / .NET 8, C#, Razor, MVC, and dependency injection patterns.
– Experience integrating Umbraco with third party APIs such as SharePoint.
– Experience building and deploying custom Umbraco components, especially forms, including workflows, data storage, and integrations.
– Proven ability to improve website search functionality.
– Good understanding of accessibility requirements, including WCAG 2.1 AA and experience applying this across public-sector websites.
– Ability to produce clear, practical technical documentation, such as upgrade notes, known issues and guidance for editors.
– Confident in delivering training and knowledge transfer for Umbraco editors and administrators.
– Awareness of change management processes and working within structured governance.
Desirable Skills:
– Experience working on public-sector digital services.
– Collaborative working style, with the ability to contribute effectively within mixed technical and non technical teams.
