Field Service Generator Engineer

Field based around London

Salary: Up to £50,000

Role Overview

An opportunity has arisen to strengthen a field-based engineering team across the Southern region. This role is suited to candidates ideally located along key transport corridors, with flexibility to travel to client sites as required.

The organisation specialises in the maintenance and support of critical power systems, delivering solutions across a wide range of applications. These include uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems and standby diesel generators of varying capacities, supporting projects from small-scale installations through to large, complex environments.

As a Field Service Engineer, you will play a key role within a busy and high-performing division. Acting as a visible representative of the business, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality service to clients, maintaining strong relationships, and ensuring work is completed efficiently and to deadline.

A customer-focused, proactive, and self-motivated approach is essential, along with the ability to work independently and liaise effectively with clients and subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out maintenance, servicing, and repair of critical power systems, particularly diesel generators
  • Diagnose faults and implement effective solutions in a timely manner
  • Support clients on-site, ensuring minimal downtime and high service standards
  • Liaise with customers and subcontractors to ensure smooth delivery of works
  • Work to tight deadlines while maintaining safety and quality standards
  • Participate in an on-call rota and provide emergency support when required
  • Travel to sites across the UK as part of service delivery requirements

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in the maintenance and repair of diesel generators
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving capabilities
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently in a field-based role
  • Flexible approach to travel and working hours, including on-call duties

Technical Knowledge (one or more of the following preferred)

  • Familiarity with major diesel generator or engine manufacturers such as:
  • SDMO
  • FG Wilson
  • Caterpillar (CAT)
  • Cummins
  • MTU
  • Mitsubishi
  • Volvo
  • John Deere
  • Perkins
  • Doosan
  • Scania
