Control & Instrumentation Engineer

SCINERGY Recruitment are supporting a major UK energy operator in the search for a Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Engineer to join one of the country’s largest underground gas storage facilities. This site plays a key role in balancing national gas supply and demand, forming a critical part of the UK’s energy infrastructure.

As a C&I Engineer, you will be responsible for the maintenance, optimisation and continuous improvement of process control systems and instrumentation, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the facility.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as the lead engineer for site functional safety, including the development, maintenance and support of all C&I-related systems
  • Providing technical support to operations, including fault diagnosis, root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions
  • Ensuring all C&I documentation and certification is compliant with current statutory and regulatory requirements
  • Identifying opportunities for plant improvement and developing engineering project scopes and schedules
  • Taking ownership of smaller-scale C&I projects, including budget responsibility
  • Providing leadership and direction to C&I Technicians on site
  • Monitoring and managing CAPEX and OPEX budgets relating to C&I activities

To be considered, you should have:

  • A relevant engineering qualification at HNC level or above – Electrical, Electronic, Instrumentation Engineering or a related discipline
  • Ideally 6+ years’ experience in engineering or maintenance within a heavy industrial environment (e.g. power generation, oil & gas, chemicals, manufacturing, steel, paper)
  • Strong practical knowledge of control systems (DCS, SCADA, PLCs) and field instrumentation (pressure, level, flow, temperature)
  • A solid understanding of maintenance management systems and management of change processes
  • Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills
