Band 3 Portering Team Leader

An exciting opportunity to join the Portering Department as a Team leader at Heartlands Hospital.
Working a rotating pattern five days over seven and responsible for the daily supervision and the efficient and effective delivery of the Portering service to the standards set by the Foundation Trust. This is through the daily compilation of duty rotas and the efficient distribution of staffing resources to all areas as required. Post holder will need to ensure effective communications are maintained between the Portering service, its staff and patients, leading by example to motivate the team in delivering quality standards.
Main duties of the job

1.To work a rotating shift pattern to delegate daily areas of work to staff through the completion of duty allocation rosters; ensuring adequate staffing levels are provided to all areas of the Trust by the effective use of all available resources within the agreed budget.
2.To ensure all staff know their duties and have the sufficient skills, training and materials to complete these to a high standard within their allocated areas.
3.To be one of the portering numbers on the ‘shop floor’; monitoring departments and areas serviced by the porter department; ensuring the efficient delivery of duties to the agreed quality standards and in accordance with Standard Operational Procedures.
4.To actively contribute to the portering department’s management team; helping produce and deliver rectification plans (where required) or new protocols needed to meet changing demands.
5.Ensure the accurate recording and interpretation of activity data through the electronic porter allocation system.
6.Ensure department guidelines such as dress code and infection control procedures are followed at all times.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- *Basic Education to Senior School Level.
- *Successful completion of aviation fire training, including both theoretical training and hot fire training, on a regular basis to retain a certificate of competence.
- *Numerate and literate.
- *Certificate in or evidence of working towards first line supervisory management or willingness to achieve
- *Full Driving Licence
Experience
- *Supervisory experience
- *Experience of working within the NHS.
Additional Criteria
- *Ability to analyse and resolve staff shortage problems
- *Demonstrate flexibility to the needs of the service
- *Ability to deploy team of porters, prioritise urgent requests and deploy staff rotas
- * Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- *Ability to Implement change in the delivery of portering services and recommend change in service delivery.
