Purpose of the role

We have great opportunities for Quantity Surveyors to support the commercial team within a dynamic and collaborative environment based at our Guilden Sutton depot, CH2 4EX. The role involves working closely with the Commercial Team and acting as a point of contact for commercial matters across projects. Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will assist with the preparation and submission of final accounts, preparation of quotations, and the development of Bills of Quantities from drawings. The role also requires ensuring the timely progression of applications through to invoice submission to finance through effective communication and coordination.

You will contribute to the effective management of projects in line with company governance, policies, and procedures, ensuring commercial activities are delivered to a high standard while supporting wider business objectives. Flexibility to assist other areas of the business when required is also expected.

Main Responsibilities

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial management of projects by carrying out measurement take-offs from drawings, preparing Bills of Quantities, and maintaining accurate cost and value reporting. Assist with cost forecasting, budget monitoring, and cost/value comparisons while ensuring all commercial processes comply with company governance and procedures. You will support supply chain procurement and the administration of contracts and subcontracts, including payment processes, change management, and the preparation and agreement of interim and final accounts. Identify, record, and assist in negotiating contractual changes in accordance with contract requirements. You will contribute to project planning and monitoring through the use of programmes, and support cost planning and tender analysis to ensure effective use of labour, plant, materials, and subcontractors. Assist with commercial reporting, including cost value reconciliation, financial forecasting, and the preparation of compensation event or contractual claims where required.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be degree qualified in Quantity Surveying and will have a minimum of three years’ relevant post-degree experience in infrastructure or civil engineering projects, including experience of taking measurements from drawings to produce Bills of Quantities. While experience within highway projects is desirable, we also welcome applications from candidates with a background in rail, utilities, or other infrastructure sectors. Candidates should be working towards, or willing to work towards, professional membership of a recognised body such as RICS or ICES and hold, or be willing to obtain, a valid CSCS card.

You will be an effective communicator with strong commercial awareness and a client-focused approach, capable of managing your workload, prioritising tasks and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Experience in administering subcontract agreements, accurate cost and value reporting, and a sound understanding of contract documentation, specifications, and methods of measurement are essential.

The role requires a strong understanding of the contracting process and commercial aspects of project delivery, along with the ability to resolve complex problems and meet stakeholder requirements. A commitment to Health & Safety, quality, environmental standards and continuous business improvement is expected, along with flexibility to travel to project sites, offices, or other locations as required.
