About the Role

We’re looking for a hands‑on Operations Manager to lead delivery across multiple live NEC projects in the power and substations space. You’ll be at the heart of operational excellence, overseeing a growing team (from 5 → 12) and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.

This is not just one project – you’ll be managing multiple sites, subcontractors, and client relationships, driving both operational and commercial success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership: Manage all operational aspects across multiple NEC projects, including subcontractor performance, resource allocation, and programme delivery.
  • Client & Stakeholder Management: Act as main client point of contact, ensuring smooth communication and alignment with NEC obligations.
  • Programme & Delivery Control: Ensure sites are ready, running efficiently, and commercially controlled. Manage risk, change control, and compensation events.
  • Team Leadership: Guide and develop a growing operations team, providing direction, coaching, and support.
  • Process & Quality Optimization: Streamline workflows, implement best practices, and maintain quality standards across electrical and civil aspects.
  • Health & Safety Oversight: Promote a culture of safety, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and internal standards.
  • Commercial Awareness: Involvement in pre-construction, estimating, and early‑stage project planning to ensure financial performance.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong Substation Experience (ICP/DNO projects essential)
  • NEC Expertise: Compensation Events (CEs), early warnings, programme management
  • Electrical & Civil Knowledge
  • Commercially and operationally astute
  • Experienced in pre-construction and estimating
  • Confident managing multiple sites and teams

Skills & Qualifications

  • Substation delivery expertise across complex projects
  • Leadership, coordination, and people management skills
  • Strong understanding of NEC processes and frameworks
  • Commercial awareness and operational excellence
  • Qualifications: APM (preferred), IOSH / NEBOSH
