About our Maritime Team
Haskoning is at the forefront of innovative maritime planning, design and development. Our multi‑disciplinary experts have assisted our international clientele to create successful ports, shipyards, and other maritime infrastructure worldwide. We have more than 70 years of experience planning, engineering and procuring successful shipyards across the globe. Our unique and comprehensive client services have made us a world leader in the maritime sector, as demonstrated by our authorship of the British Standard for shipyard design, BS6349 Part 3. The team is recognised for its expertise in shipyard benchmarking, feasibility studies, master plans and designs. Recent projects include the King Salman International Complex in Saudi Arabia and detailed analyses of offshore wind port infrastructure needs for European countries.
About our Commercial Services Team
Our Commercial Services team delivers a wide variety of work across our entire Water & Maritime business line, and also supports other business lines (Industry & Buildings, and Mobility & Infrastructure). Based in the UK, the team supports projects globally and is expanding to maintain current growth and build upon our offerings. Working in the Commercial Services team requires using existing knowledge, thinking outside the box, developing detailed estimates for bespoke projects, and collaborating with engineering teams worldwide. The role offers personal growth and opportunities to share knowledge across time zones. We value people over rigid role definitions and welcome candidates from estimating and quantity surveying backgrounds who are willing to be based in one of our UK offices.
What you will do
- Prepare accurate cost estimates by analysing Conceptual, FEED or RIBA 1‑4 drawings in line with standard measurement guidelines (predominantly CESMM4).
- Use RIB CostX software and Excel to prepare a range of estimates in a standard format, drawing on standard rate data or building rates from first principles.
- Prepare Bills of Quantities and Activity Schedules, using previously completed estimates or starting from scratch.
- Be familiar with BCIS, SPONS and other industry pricing information.
- Develop and maintain rate libraries for use on projects in the UK and worldwide.
- Advise engineering teams on high‑level rates for concept‑design level projects.
- Collaborate with project teams, clients and stakeholders to provide expert advice and support cost‑management strategies.
- Collate rate and cost information for future estimates.
- Liaise with Project Managers to develop working relationships and future internal and external work opportunities.
- Be based in one of our UK offices; WFH is possible.

- A problem‑solver who can see the ‘problem’ quickly and understand the issues, setting out a route map to reach an answer.
- Proficient in estimating software, RIB CostX.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Interested in marine and civil engineering projects.
- Degree‑qualified in a construction‑related field.
- Able to demonstrate extensive post‑degree experience.
- An excellent communicator.
- Willing to have experience of Life Cycle cost analysis (desirable).
- Experienced or willing to explore integrating carbon values into estimates (desirable).

Location
Our key maritime offices are in Newcastle, Edinburgh, London, Brighton, Peterborough and Liverpool. The successful candidate will be based in the same offices as our existing members, in Peterborough or Liverpool, but for the right person we would consider any of our maritime offices.
