Salary: £33,002 – £35,608, potential progression to £39,906

Role Summary

The Donor Experience Officer will work within a team of three to manage stewardship and donor experience activities for a diverse range of supporters including regular donors, legacy pledgers, volunteers, charitable and corporate organisations, and major donors. The role involves delivering meaningful stewardship programmes, communicating impact, coordinating events, managing data and supporting donor relationship management.

Main Duties

Stewardship Programme Delivery

  • Manage and deliver key elements of the Birmingham in Action stewardship programme for regular donors, legacy pledgers, volunteers, charities and corporate organisations, and major donors.
  • Develop and oversee annual impact reports, donor communications and content.
  • Plan and coordinate thank‑you and recognition events.
  • Work with teams (Regular Giving, Volunteering, Corporate Partnerships) to tailor stewardship activities for different donor segments.
  • Maintain the donor landing page on the campaign website in conjunction with Communications.

Content Generation

  • Collaborate with engagement, graduation and outreach teams to produce collateral (impact reports, thank‑you letters, scholar updates, films, images) for student support donors.
  • Work with academic colleagues to create collateral for research donors.
  • Manage design and print agencies and oversee communications projects.

Supporting Major Donor Relationships

  • Assist Philanthropy and Charitable Funding teams in managing donor relationships.
  • Prepare bespoke impact reports and other donor‑recognition collateral.
  • Support weekly event updates via SharePoint email.

Leading & Supporting Events

  • Lead and co‑lead stewardship events for regular and mid‑value donors, volunteers and major donors.
  • Support bespoke discovery days, major giving events and recognition circles celebrations.
  • Assist with DARO and central events as required.

Data Management

  • Collaborate with the Data Team to manage segmentation, identify anomalies and implement solutions.

Other Responsibilities

  • Promote equality and diversity, being a role model for inclusive culture.
  • Support the university’s sustainability agenda through resource‑efficient practices.
  • Perform any other duties consistent with Grade 6.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Excellent communication skills, with experience writing for diverse audiences.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage a complex workload, prioritise, work independently and in a team.
  • Experience of donor stewardship, account management, event management and budget management.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and deliver digital content and support key performance indicators.
  • Understanding of donor stewardship best practice and the higher education funding context.
  • Professional integrity, ethics, and the ability to represent the university with confidence.
  • IT skills: MS Office Suite, Zoom, internet.
  • Degree level education, with practical experience if equivalent.
