Mechanical Design Engineer – Building Services

Location: South Manchester (Hybrid Working Available)

Salary: £35,000 – £55,000 + Benefits

The Opportunity

Our client, a well-established and forward‑thinking building services consultancy, is looking to appoint a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects across sectors including commercial, high‑rise residential, new build schools with the DfE framework, and high profile mixed‑use developments.

You will be involved in the full project lifecycle, contributing to the delivery of high‑quality, sustainable mechanical design solutions within a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical building services systems, including HVAC, public health, and domestic water services
  • Produce detailed calculations, specifications, and technical drawings
  • Undertake heat loss/gain calculations, ventilation design, and plant sizing
  • Ensure designs comply with UK standards and regulations (e.g., CIBSE, Building Regulations)
  • Work closely with electrical engineers, architects, and project teams
  • Attend client and design team meetings
  • Carry out site surveys and inspections
  • Support project delivery to agreed timelines and budgets

About You

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering
  • Proven experience in mechanical design within building services
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC and associated systems
  • Familiar with UK regulations and industry standards (CIBSE, Part L, etc.)
  • Proficient in software such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and design tools (e.g., IES VE, Hevacomp)
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to manage workload across multiple projects

Desirable

  • Working towards or holding professional accreditation (IEng/CEng)
  • Experience within a consultancy environment
  • Knowledge of low‑carbon and sustainable design (e.g., heat pumps, net zero strategies)
  • Experience with BIM processes
